I Love Felting

It started out looking like this... Here is the cabled pocket I added to the design. It came out nice when it felted, the cables are all soft and pretty.
This is the bag seamed but not felted yet. (It looks really big.) I think I did go up a needle size or two from the orig pattern directions.

And here it is felted and ready to be lined. I love the stripey lining, feels very retro to me (Jo-Ann's). Also the gray is a lot lighter in person, the picts are showing a dark gray. The cording is for around the top to re-inforce the handle and such. When the lininng is in, I'll show the finished picee. I'm off to try and get that done now.

Sock Help!!!

I'm trying to find some basic worsted wool socks, for me and am getting lost in the jungle and tangle of the vast variety of socks out there in the world. I tried some (see last previous), and they came out way too small for me, but will fit the small one so there was no wasted knitting time. However, if there's anybody reading this, please, please send me some basic sock patterns that I can try. Thanks to who ever may be reading this.

Alas, my poor socks. I finished the cuff, did the heel and turned the heel and then really looked at my little sock--it was too small. That sock wouldn't have fit my small one. Ah the frogs came out to play last night.

I finished mybag. I still need to felt it, so I guess I'm not technically done, but I feel better that I've completed something of my WIP's.

Will post the picts of the before's and after's when I figure out how my camera works a little bit better.

Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday...

...a four day marathon of non-stop activity...
Friday -- volunteer at school all morning, shop and clean house for Saturday (see Saturday).
Saturday -- woke up early, fed small ones, walked dog, made forty (yes 40!!!) egg rolls for Chinese Mardi Gras party that evening. (you know to celebrate the Chinese New Year and Mardi Gras--the year of the pig)
Big child picked up for school activity on Sat. morn, left wee one with dad all day.
Went to church festival from 11:00 a.m. until 5:45 p.m. when I got home.
Chinese Mardi Gras party scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m. As I am getting out of shower, doorbell rings, dog barks and people arrive. Oh, yeah, the parental units (aka G-parents) visiting as well-- grandma needs her grandchild fix.
Party goes well into the night (11:30 p.m.) that's late enough for me. Boggle competition keeps us going until the small hours of the night. (yes, we're geeks who love Boggle) I don't like the on-line version though, it's more of a challenge to play the original version. (Great for your 7 to 8 yr old's spelling comprehension.)
Sunday -- get up early to go to church, then brunch with G-parents. Then baseball at the park for big child with his friends (sort of like spring training for them), wee one played on the slide. Send G-parents on their way back home and can finally veg. Had all intents and purposes to finish one of the handbag projects to get ready for felting today (Mon.) -- never happened.
Monday -- President's Day -- everywhere except here in the Desert SW -- we have Rodeo Days this weekend, so school for the big one and for me the re-claiming of my house, i.e. laundry, cleaning bathrooms, vacuuming...
...maybe tonight I'll be able to sit down and knit...

As I Eat My Lunch

As I fed the small one, and sat down to "work" (yeah, right), and eat my lunch, I stumbled across the Knitting Blogs. Great, great place to see some new reads and get an idea of who's out there too!

Oh, lunch is tortilla chips and hubby's cream chees poblano dip. Yummy!!!!

Bags, Bags and more Bags...

I've been working on finishing up some knitted bags that I started way back in Dec. '06, way before this blog, but I want to put, or I guess document someway that I've actually been working on projects. Those other pesky bags are working their way back underneath where I don't want them --- maybe some more tea bags!!!!

So here goes, the Brea bag caught my eye way back, and I've finished it except for seaming the gusset and finidng a strap (when I finish I'll post picts). But me being me, I didn't use the berroco yarn, I used a superwash Cascade 220 in a gorgeous rusty orange (doubled) and it came out great.

Next I started a felted bobble bag. This is done except for the felting (it's been too wet to felt anything it'll take forever to dry) and I used Nature Spun from Brown Sheep Co. in light gray (doubled) took about 3 skeins. And I'm adding a calble pocket on the outside which I'm going to felt too because I don't know what will happen to the cables when they're felted (will tell when done). And I'm not doing the bobbles. No way, I hate, hate, hate knitting bobbles.

I'm also trying to finish sleeves for a cushy t-neck sweater that I'm knitting from some great Patons chenille yarn my aunt gave me (they don't make it anymore). She had knitted a sweater front with it and then never finished so I recycled it into my own sweater. I'm trying to think, the pattern came from a book I got at the library...I didn't write down on the pattern, so I won't refer to it too much (or at all for fear of).

And I actually inspired myslef to try one of the Valentine's patterns I mentioned. When I dig up some yarn for those, I'll tell about how it's going.

Blogging and Knitting -- Working the 2tog

How do knitting and blogging combine into a successful collaberation?

Work in progress (WIP), or in my case works in progress all get a jump start and help from this thing we call the internet. Here we can encourage, advise, inspire and sometimes dicourage from our own mistakes strangers in this world. So far I have yet to venture into the cyber relationship of other knitters, I think it's my upbringing, too shy to delve into meeting others through a computer...so that's why this blog is now here. To kick myself out of my comfort zone and into a new zone of knitting conscience.

Thus the blogging and knitting, the k2tog.
