Wildlife Up-Close and Personal!

We had a visitor in the back yard this afternoon...

...I think he (or she) had just finished lunch!

This is a western diamondback rattlesnake (the king of all rattlesnakes).

In my back yard!

It's Ella I'm worried about! The kids are a little freaked out! Won't go in the backyard for a few days! The snakes do come out now -- getting warm here!

I would totally freak out if I found any kind of sneake in my backyard. I hope you didn't have to get too close to take photos of your slithering visitor. You must have some serious zoom on you camera. (I don't think my little 3x optical zoom camera would do it)

So I see the "lump" on him, wonder what he had for breakfast.

Hopefully it goes away soon!

We have a deck upstairs and I took the bottom two picts from there (yes, good zoom). The top picture was taken from inside the house! We have a very small backyard!

I'm seriously impressed that you were able to stay calm enough to grab a camera. I would have been in the house and packing up the kids. I had a very close call with a copperhead here a couple of summers ago and now I am terrified of snakes.

I hope it moved on.

I'm glad Ella didn't find the snake before you did. Madison has her rattlesnake vaccine up to date. Are you in town and Mr. Snake came to visit?

I am so glad we don't have those kinds of snakes here in Maine. Or other nasty bugs! We have cold and snow, but no deadly snakes or spiders!!!
