Yarn for Thought

Posting a question for all of you out there.
When you knit, whatever it may be, socks, hats, mittens, gloves, sweaters, whatever -- what do you do with your yarn ball?
Do you toss it on the floor and have a long trail of yarn?
Or do you tuck it neatly next to you on the chair or couch?

This just popped in my mind last night as I was laying on the bed knitting the blue hat and just carelessly tossed the ball of yarn on the floor.
I tend to do both depending on the yarn and what I'm knitting, but just a . . .

Yarn for thought today.

I wind all my yarn into cakes and pull from the center. I like how the cakes stay nice and still. I don't like how balls roll around. I have to keep my yarn close by or the kitties get it. If I don't put it in a zippered bag up high they take the yarn and run throughout the house causing a HUGE yarn mess.

Hmmmm, I had never thought about this, but it is a fun question!

I usually work it right off the skein (or ball if it was originally a hank that I have wound)... I put it on my lap or at my side. I just don't feel right about letting it touch the floor.

I'm tucking it neatly next to me. I wouldn't be able to work with such a long trail of yarn if the ball was on the floor - plus my cat would be way too busy to play with the skein then ;)

More often than not I have it next to me...I'm usually knitting in my home office when I need a break from work, or in the living room in f front of the TV. Since the tile floors are never completely spotless, I don't trust tossing it down there. I do usually have a long tail going though, strung across my lap.

I am a person who puts it on clean floors and then it gets all tangled. I wish I could be neater!

I have never really thought about that! In retrospect I do always make sure the yarn does not end up on the floor, that would be because I had cats, hence it was a matter of survival... LOL
